Daniel E. Miller Sentenced to 15 Years for Methamphetamine Possession, Omaha NE, 2023
A federal judge in Omaha, Nebraska, has handed down a 15-year prison sentence to a local man convicted of possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Daniel E. Miller, 42, of Omaha, was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment by United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher on July 10, 2023, after being convicted of the crime.
The sentence was handed down as a result of a previous conviction for willful injury in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, in 2007, which classified Miller as having a “serious violent felony” offense on his record.
The investigation into Miller’s activities began on February 20, 2020, when Omaha police were dispatched to a local bar after a woman reported being assaulted by Miller. Officers ultimately arrested Miller and conducted a search of his person, which revealed 94 grams of methamphetamine hidden in the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt.
Forensic testing determined the methamphetamine to be 94 percent pure, a staggering amount that highlights the severity of Miller’s crime.
As part of his sentence, Miller will be required to begin a 10-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. The federal system does not offer parole, meaning Miller will have to serve out the entirety of his sentence before being eligible for release.
Miller’s case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department, and his conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by methamphetamine and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat its distribution.
