A Springfield man is facing up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge.
Daniel Lorenz, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors in U.S. District Court. Judge William G. Young scheduled sentencing for February 9, 2016.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, federal agents executed a search warrant at Lorenz’s Springfield residence on March 13, 2014. Lorenz waived his Miranda rights and admitted to possessing a large quantity of child pornography on his computer, including image and video files.
Lorenz admitted to collecting child pornography for at least three or four years and distributing or receiving it approximately three times per week using email accounts. He also created and utilized multiple social media accounts, including Facebook and Google+ profiles, to make contact with minor females for the purposes of obtaining child pornography and engaging in sexually explicit conversations.
Agents seized Lorenz’s personal computer and located approximately 800 video files of child pornography, including files depicting the rape, bondage, and sexual torture of girls as young as three years old.
Lorenz is facing a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison, five years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. According to the plea agreement, Lorenz has agreed to serve between 48 and 121 months in prison and ten years of supervised release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow of the Springfield Branch Office. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Springfield Police Department provided assistance in the case.
