Local Man Sentenced to 21 Years in Prison for Sex Crime

A Youngstown man has been sentenced to over 21 years in prison for traveling across state lines to engage in illegal sexual activity, law enforcement officials said.

David Guevara, Sr., 35, was sentenced to 262 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Christopher Boyko for his role in a sex crime that shocked the community.

According to court documents, Guevara met a 15-year-old girl in July 2015 and began a sexual relationship with her. The relationship started in a tent under a Youngstown bridge before Guevara took the minor to Philadelphia, where he continued to engage in sexual intercourse with her.

Guevara was originally interviewed by local law enforcement on December 14, 2015, and admitted to engaging in a sexual relationship with the minor, despite knowing her age. He even stated that it was his intent to have a child with the minor and move them to Mexico.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Youngstown Resident Agency, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, and the Youngstown Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benedict S. Gullo prosecuted the case.

The sentencing of Guevara sends a strong message that sex crimes will not be tolerated in our community. We hope that this brings closure to the victim and their loved ones.
