David M. Follett, Child Pornography Distribution, Kansas 2024

A Kansas man has been sentenced to 126 months in prison for distributing child sexual abuse materials. The disturbing case serves as a harsh reminder of the need for vigilance in protecting our communities from such heinous crimes.

David M. Follett, 38, of El Dorado, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography. According to court documents, Follett used his computer to share child pornography with other users on a peer-to-peer filesharing network on multiple occasions.

Among the recipients was an agent from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). While executing a search warrant at Follett’s home, agents found evidence of child pornography activities on Follett’s laptop.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart prosecuted the case.

Follett’s actions are a stark example of the devastating impact of child exploitation. The distribution of child pornography not only perpetuates the abuse of innocent children but also fuels a thriving market for such materials.

Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, aims to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and CEOS, the project marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The case against Follett serves as a testament to the effectiveness of Project Safe Childhood’s efforts. The initiative has made significant strides in combating child exploitation, and cases like this one highlight the importance of continued collaboration and vigilance in protecting our communities.
