Kanard Bishop, 28, of the District of Columbia, led a violent spree of armed robberies and carjackings across DC and Maryland, targeting retail stores and innocent drivers from February 14, 2024, to March 28, 2024. Bishop and his co-conspirators, including Edward Leroy Brown and Khalil Boyd, used firearms to intimidate and rob their victims, leaving a trail of fear and trauma in their wake. The motives behind the crimes appear to be purely financial, with the group seeking cash and valuables from their victims.
The spree began on February 14, 2024, when Bishop and Brown entered a convenience store in Capitol Heights, Maryland, pointing firearms at an employee and demanding cash. The pair fled to a nearby McDonald’s, where they attempted to rob the drive-through window, before fleeing again. Over the next six weeks, the group carried out or attempted at least 13 separate robberies and carjackings, with Bishop playing a leading role in the conspiracy.
Bishop pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce by robbery and using and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence on March 26, 2026. He was sentenced to 180 months in prison, with an additional five years of supervised release. His co-conspirators, Brown and Boyd, received sentences of 150 months and 144 months, respectively.
The sentences bring a measure of justice to the victims and communities affected by the spree. The investigation and prosecution were led by the US Attorney’s Office, with support from federal law enforcement agencies.
