Delaware Man Sentenced to Prison for Child Pornography

A Wilmington man has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in receiving child pornography, according to a recent investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

James White, 46, pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography on May 18, 2010. The investigation revealed that White purchased membership access to various commercial child pornography websites over a three-year period.

A search of White’s Wilmington residence on May 5, 2009, resulted in the seizure of computer equipment containing thousands of images and videos of child pornography depicting the sexual abuse of prepubescent and teenage minors.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet.

The case was investigated by ICE and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward J. McAndrew of the District of Delaware and Trial Attorney LisaMarie Freitas of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).

White has been detained since his May 13, 2009, arrest and will serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence. The investigation into commercial child pornography websites, which began in 2005, has resulted in numerous arrests and convictions nationwide.

Project Safe Childhood has been a collaborative effort to identify and rescue victims of child exploitation, as well as to prosecute those responsible. For more information about the project, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
