Dirk Johnson Sentenced for Methamphetamine and Firearm Offenses, Council Bluffs IA, 2023
A 58-year-old Council Bluffs man has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for his involvement in a large-scale methamphetamine conspiracy. Dirk Johnson was found to have possessed with the intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine in 2019.
According to court documents, Johnson was part of a group that was distributing the highly addictive substance in the Omaha area. The investigation, led by the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, uncovered a stash of dozens of small baggies of methamphetamine at Johnson’s residence in Council Bluffs. The search also turned up a handgun and another firearm in a second vehicle on the property.
Johnson was stopped while driving past the residence with co-defendant Linda Riaski, where more baggies of methamphetamine and a handgun were found in their vehicle. Riaski was sentenced to 120 months in prison in February 2023 for her role in the conspiracy and for possessing firearms.
Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. imposed the sentence, which includes a five-year term of supervised release after Johnson is released from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case highlights the ongoing problem of methamphetamine trafficking in the region and the need for law enforcement to crack down on those involved in the trade. The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is commended for their diligent work in bringing Johnson to justice.
As the investigation continues, it is clear that Johnson’s involvement in the methamphetamine conspiracy was significant. The sentence handed down by Judge Rossiter reflects the severity of the offense and the harm that it caused to the community.
