Marree Kavon Currie, a 43-year-old Oklahoma City man, was busted for possessing a firearm used in a drive-by shooting that terrorized an occupied residence on August 14, 2025. Eight days later, on August 22, 2025, Currie was pulled over by Oklahoma City police for not wearing a seatbelt, and that’s when they found the gun. Currie had a long rap sheet, including prior felony convictions for malicious injury to property, assault on a government employee, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Ballistics testing linked the firearm to the drive-by shooting, and surveillance footage placed Currie’s vehicle near the scene just minutes before the shots were fired. A digital extraction of his phone showed that it was powered off ten minutes before the shooting and powered back on ten minutes after, suggesting that Currie was trying to avoid detection.
On August 4, 2026, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell sentenced Currie to 144 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Russell noted Currie’s blatant disregard for the law and the danger he posed to the public.
The case was the result of a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Oklahoma City Police Department, and the Moore Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Gridley prosecuted the case, securing a 12-year sentence for Currie’s role in the drive-by shooting.
