Isael Antonio Ortiz, a 27-year-old Oklahoma City man, was involved in a violent attack outside a local business on October 14, 2024. Ortiz struck a victim’s vehicle with an object, breaking the driver’s-side window, and then revealed a long-barrel firearm from his pants. After noticing a surveillance camera, Ortiz fled the scene, but was later detained by officers at his residence. Ortiz was found to be in possession of a firearm, despite having a previous felony conviction, and he attempted to influence a witness to falsely claim ownership of the firearm.
Ortiz’s attempts to tamper with a witness led to additional charges, and on January 6, 2026, a federal grand jury charged him with being a felon in possession of a firearm and witness tampering. A federal jury found Ortiz guilty on both counts on February 10, 2026.
On July 27, 2026, U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick sentenced Ortiz to serve 120 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence was imposed to protect the public and provide adequate deterrence, taking into account Ortiz’s lengthy criminal history and his decision to brandish a firearm during the attack.
Ortiz’s criminal history includes previous felony convictions for eluding a police officer, use of a vehicle in discharge of a weapon, drive-by shooting, and illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence reflects the severity of Ortiz’s crimes and the need to hold him accountable for his actions.
