East Saint Louis Man Lands 20-Year Sentence for Cocaine Trafficking Conspiracy
A 20-year prison sentence has been handed down to Emil D. Lewis, a/k/a ‘E,’ 49, of East Saint Louis, Illinois, for his role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy.
Lewis, who pleaded guilty to a four-count indictment, was found to have distributed over 150 kilograms of cocaine between December 25, 2016, and September 6, 2017.
According to United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Steven D. Weinhoeft, evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings established the extent of Lewis’s involvement in the illicit conspiracy.
The investigation, which was conducted under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), brought together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to dismantle the large national and international drug trafficking organization.
The OCDETF initiative is designed to identify, target, and dismantle large drug trafficking organizations, and the investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Internal Revenue Service.
The 240-month term in federal prison handed down to Lewis is a significant blow to the cocaine trafficking conspiracy, and it serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in such activities.
As a seasoned journalist for Grimy Times, it is clear that the war on drugs is far from over. This case highlights the importance of continued efforts to disrupt and dismantle these organizations.
