Edison José Díaz-Carreras, Enticement of a Minor, Puerto Rico 2017

Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Enticement of a Minor

San Juan, Puerto Rico – In a devastating case of child exploitation, Edison José Díaz-Carreras, a 38-year-old resident of Puerto Rico, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempting to coerce and entice a 13-year-old girl into unlawful sexual activity.

The events unfolded in December 2015, when Díaz-Carreras sent the minor explicit videos and images through electronic communications, stating his desire to take her to a motel to engage in sexual activity. The defendant described in detail the explicit acts he wanted to perform with the minor.

The case came to a head on April 15, 2016, when Homeland Security Investigations Agents arrested Díaz-Carreras at an arranged location where he was planning to pick up the minor. The defendant believed he was picking up the 13-year-old girl, but in reality, he was interacting with an undercover agent.

“We will continue our ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute those who use electronic communications to entice minors to engage in illegal sexual acts,” said U.S. Attorney Rosa E. Rodriguez-Velez.

Díaz-Carreras was charged with attempting to coerce and entice a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity. He will serve a 10-year sentence for his crimes.

The case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Elba Gorbea.

This sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of attempting to exploit and harm our children. As a society, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect our youth and bring perpetrators to justice.
