RAPID CITY – In a move to crack down on immigration crimes, a Mexican national was sentenced for reentering the United States after being deported.
Elver Cerecedo-Tellez, 30, a non-citizen of the United States and a Mexican national, was found back in the country in May 2024, after being deported in 2018. Reentering the US after deportation is a felony.
Cerecedo-Tellez was indicted for Illegal Reentry after Deportation by a federal grand jury in February 2025. He pleaded guilty on March 21, 2025.
According to court documents, this case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted the case.
On April 29, 2025, U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler sentenced Elver Cerecedo-Tellez to time served and ordered him to be removed from the United States. Cerecedo-Tellez is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
