A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Picayune, Mississippi, as local resident Elza Eugene Harter, 52, has been sentenced to serve a lengthy prison term for his role in the crime.
According to court documents, Elza Eugene Harter was found to be in possession of a laptop and hard drive containing 111 images and 206 videos of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
On June 5, 2014, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) discovered the incriminating materials during an investigation into Harter’s activities.
A thorough examination of the evidence led to Harter’s arrest and subsequent indictment on charges related to the possession of child pornography.
On September 21, 2016, Harter pleaded guilty to the charge, acknowledging his culpability in the crime.
Chief U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. handed down a 97-month prison sentence, to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release, as part of Harter’s punishment.
In addition to the lengthy prison term, Harter was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the importance of continued vigilance in identifying and prosecuting those who engage in such heinous activities.
