A 27-year-old Tampa man has pleaded guilty to producing child pornography on MacDill Air Force Base.
Erich Clifford Mandell Ramos, 27, Tampa, faces a minimum mandatory term of 15 years, up to a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison for his crimes.
According to the plea agreement, Ramos sexually abused a minor while visiting a home at MacDill Air Force Base. He took sexually explicit photographs of the minor victim and instructed her not to tell her mother. Ramos paid the minor approximately $20.00.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stacie B. Harris.
This case is another example of the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The federal, state, and local resources are working together to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, is leading the efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative is led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).
Ramos’ guilty plea is a major blow to child predators, and it sends a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated. The federal authorities will continue to work tirelessly to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
