ERIE, Pa. – The federal government has thrown the book at Charles L. McIntosh, 25, of Erie, charging him with violating federal firearms laws. United States Attorney Scott W. Brady broke the news, announcing the indictment by a federal grand jury.
The one-count indictment against McIntosh alleges that in April 2019, he brazenly possessed two firearms while already a convicted felon. The charges carry a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine or both, leaving no doubt about the severity of the offense.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is the lead prosecutor in this case, ensuring that justice seeks its due. The investigation leading to McIntosh’s arrest was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Erie Police Department.
This isn’t just any case; it’s part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program at the heart of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction strategy. PSN focuses on identifying and addressing the most pressing violent crime problems in communities, with a particular emphasis on the most violent offenders. It also partners with local programs for sustainable reductions in crime.
For now, McIntosh stands accused. An indictment is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt.
The grimy details of this case underscore the government’s commitment to cracking down on gun-related violations, even as it seeks to address broader violent crime issues in Erie and beyond.
