Methamphetamine Ring Busted in Tri-State Area
A Dakota City woman has been sentenced to more than 8 years in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that spanned the tri-state area.
Erika Rojas, 38, was sentenced to 102 months’ imprisonment on August 3, 2022, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. Rojas, a resident of Dakota City, Nebraska, pleaded guilty on March 16, 2022, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Rojas was part of a large-scale drug ring that sold methamphetamine in the Sioux City area. The ring, which included her co-defendants Anthony Crist, Dennys Rodriguez, and Randall Nichols, received the methamphetamine from Mexico through the mail in the form of decorative masks. The masks contained a wax mixture that was then extracted by Rojas’ co-defendants, who redistributed the methamphetamine around Sioux City.
A search of Rojas’ storage locker turned up multiple pounds of methamphetamine, as well as the decorative masks used to smuggle the drug. Rojas was the last of her co-conspirators to be sentenced in the case.
Rojas will serve a 3-year term of supervised release after completing her prison sentence. The U.S. Marshals Service is currently holding her in custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Lammers and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a multi-agency task force based in Sioux City, Iowa. The task force includes law enforcement personnel from the DEA, Sioux City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, South Sioux City Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Iowa National Guard, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, U.S. Marshals Service, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.
