CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Vincent Irving Jones, 34, of Fairmont, is trading the hills of Marion County for a federal prison cell after receiving a hefty 151-month sentence today. Jones was busted with methamphetamine and an illegally possessed pistol, sending him to the slammer for over twelve years.
The case, laid bare in court documents, paints a picture of a man repeatedly running afoul of the law. Jones, already saddled with multiple prior felony convictions, had no legal right to possess a firearm. Yet, authorities found him in Marion County packing both drugs and heat – a dangerous combination that landed him in deep trouble.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Will Rhee relentlessly prosecuted the case, building a solid argument that secured the lengthy sentence. Sources close to the investigation tell Grimy Times that Rhee hammered home Jones’s history and the inherent danger he posed to the public.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Fairmont Police Department worked together to bring Jones down. The ATF’s expertise in firearms tracing, combined with the local knowledge of the Fairmont PD, proved a lethal combination for the defendant. Investigators reportedly seized a significant amount of methamphetamine during the bust.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh wasn’t swayed by any attempts at leniency. He handed down the full 151-month sentence, sending a clear message that West Virginia’s federal courts won’t tolerate drug trafficking and illegal gun possession, especially from repeat offenders like Jones.
This case underscores the ongoing battle against the flow of methamphetamine into West Virginia and the commitment of federal and local agencies to disarm criminals.
