DETROIT — Justin Miller, a 23-year-old from Farmington Hills, is facing federal charges for producing and possessing child pornography, coercion of minors, and the transmission of extortionate threats, according to United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr.
Gorgon, along with Reuben Coleman, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, announced the charges against Miller, who is accused of being a Nihilistic Violent Extremist (NVE) and participating in online groups that promote self-harm and criminal activity. The complaint alleges that Miller encouraged members to cut his screenname into their flesh, a practice known as “cuttingsigns.”
In addition to the sinister encouragement of self-harm, Miller is accused of grooming underage girls to produce and send him sexually explicit videos and images. According to Gorgon, these actions represent a despicable attack on vulnerable victims in our community.
“The alleged crimes are sick and twisted,” Gorgon stated. “Nihilistic violent extremists shamefully terrorize vulnerable victims in our communities to create chaos and instability. We will do everything in our power to root out and prosecute this perverse behavior.”
Coleman echoed Gorgon’s sentiments, emphasizing the FBI’s commitment to protecting children from exploitation. “Safeguarding our children from violence, coercion, and exploitation is a top priority for the FBI,” he said.
This case is being investigated by agents from the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Ramamurthy. The criminal complaint against Miller is merely a formal charge and is not evidence of guilt; every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
