Felon Caught with Shotgun in Maine
A 54-year-old Lebanon man has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge in Maine. Lawrence Young, 54, of Lebanon, Maine, admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm in U.S. District Court.
According to court records, Young was discovered hunting with a 16-gauge shotgun in the area of Acton, Maine on May 1, 2014. Young was prohibited from possessing firearms due to two prior felony convictions.
Young faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was conducted by the Maine State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Young’s guilty plea comes after a lengthy investigation into his firearm possession. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to keep firearms out of the hands of those who are prohibited from possessing them.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II said, ‘This case is a reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal firearm laws.’
