Jonathan Burden, a 53-year-old New Orleans man, was caught with two firearms despite being a convicted felon. The incident occurred on or about February 4, 2024, in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Burden, who has a prior record of crimes punishable by imprisonment for over a year, is now facing serious charges for his actions. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and protecting communities.
Burden’s indictment charges him with being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18 United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release, along with a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Sarah Dawkins of the Violent Crime Unit. U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle emphasized that the indictment is merely a charge and that Burden’s guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Operation Take Back America is a comprehensive effort to tackle the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. The initiative streamlines resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
