A 52-year-old Tickfaw man, Larry Turner, is going down for his role in a massive fentanyl trafficking ring that brought death and destruction to Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, and Washington Parishes.
Turner, 52, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl, a deadly synthetic opioid that’s been linked to countless overdoses and deaths across the country.
A search warrant at Turner’s Tickfaw residence netted over five kilograms of fentanyl in counterfeit pill form, along with multiple firearms. The raid was a culmination of a years-long investigation led by the DEA’s Fentanyl Overdose Response Team (FORT) and involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Turner’s sentence, 168 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, was handed down by U.S. District Judge Barry W. Ashe. U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle praised the work of the FORT team and other agencies involved in the case.
The prosecution of Turner is a reminder that the war on fentanyl is far from over. As long as traffickers like Turner are on the streets, the risk of overdose and death remains a very real threat to our communities.
