Felon Gets 8 Years for Unlawful Gun Possession

A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. Tirreil Mario Maynor, 33, was sentenced to 96 months’ imprisonment followed by 3 years’ supervised release in federal court in Raleigh.

The charges stem from a 2014 incident in which Maynor discharged a firearm inside a residence and stole a television. He also fired a gun at another location and threatened to kill several individuals, before fleeing the scene and shooting out the back window of a vehicle in front of him.

Maynor was arrested on September 29, 2014, and found in possession of a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Ballistics linked the firearm to the various shootings that took place on September 26, 2014.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fayetteville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jane J. Jackson handled the prosecution on behalf of the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Maynor pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on October 29, 2015. The indictment was returned by a Federal Grand Jury on July 21, 2015.

Maynor’s sentence marks a significant step in bringing justice to the victims of his crimes. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of unlawful gun possession and the importance of community cooperation in preventing and investigating such crimes.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and bring perpetrators to justice.
