Felon Jailed 15 Years for Gun and Meth Sins

A Springdale man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Rodney Luis Reed, 49, received the sentence from the Honorable Judge Timothy L. Brooks in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.

According to court documents, Detectives with the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force were called to assist in a parole search of Reed’s residence in Springdale, Arkansas, on December 18, 2020. During the search, officers located a .22 caliber pistol, distribution amounts of methamphetamine, a distribution amount of cocaine, digital scales, baggies, and $794.00.

Reed attempted to flee the residence, prompting officers to use force to take him into custody. The Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Springdale Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David Harris prosecuting the case.

The investigation was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The PSN program was reinvigorated in 2017 as part of the renewed focus on targeting violent criminals.

U.S. Attorney David Clay Fowlkes of the Western District of Arkansas made the announcement, emphasizing the importance of the program in bringing together law enforcement and the community to reduce violent crime.
