Felon Sentenced 13 Years for Possessing Pistols, Unregistered Silencers
SHREVEPORT, La. – Tarodganey Sumner, a 26-year-old Shreveport man, has been sentenced to 162 months in prison for possessing two pistols with silencers after being arrested for burglary.
According to a guilty plea, Sumner was arrested on September 11, 2017, by Shreveport police for burglarizing a home on Burson Drive. During the arrest, officers found a Volquartsen Custom, .22-caliber pistol with an attached Silcenerco Spectre II, .22-caliber silencer on him.
A search of the car Sumner was driving at the time found a Benelli Arms S.PA., 9 mm pistol with an attached Silencerco 450SPREY, .45-caliber silencer. The two silencers were reported stolen and not registered to Sumner.
As a convicted felon, Sumner was not allowed to possess firearms. He was previously convicted of burglary in Caddo Parish on June 20, 2011.
Sumner was sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. on September 13, 2018, to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of an unregistered firearm. He will also serve three years of supervised release.
The investigation was conducted by the ATF and Shreveport Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany E. Fields is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made addressing rising violent crime in America a top priority, and the reinvigoration of PSN is part of a series of actions to address this trend.
