Felon Sentenced to 20 Years for Methamphetamine, Firearms Violations
A convicted felon who was arrested with firearms and drugs after fleeing from Salina police was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Jason Briscoe, 42, Minneapolis, Kan., was convicted during a jury trial in May on multiple charges, including one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and multiple counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.
According to court records, officers of the Salina Police Department encountered Briscoe while conducting surveillance of the Red Coach hotel. When police stopped Briscoe’s car, Briscoe ran from the car carrying a handgun in his right hand.
During the chase, Briscoe dropped the gun and a bag that contained methamphetamine and a second firearm. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Salina Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster.
U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister commended the Salina Police Department and the other agencies involved in the case for their hard work and dedication.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Justice initiative aimed at reducing gun violence.
Jason Briscoe’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to keep our communities safe from gun violence and drug trafficking.
With this sentence, Briscoe will be held accountable for his actions and will serve as a deterrent to others who would engage in similar crimes.
