Kelvontae Rashad Wallace, Machinegun Possession, Alabama 2024

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a gritty sentencing for illegal weaponry, Kelvontae Rashad Wallace, 26, from Pell City, Alabama, has been handed down an 79-month sentence. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona following Chief U.S. District Judge R. David Proctor’s ruling.

Wallace pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machinegun. The plea agreement details Wallace’s illegal possession of both firearms between December 2023 and January 2024.

The crime spree began on December 15, 2023, when police responded to a shooting at the Orange #1 gas station. Officers recovered five .45 caliber spent shell casings and discovered multiple bullet holes in the store windows and door. Surveillance footage revealed Wallace as the shooter using a Glock pistol converted into a machinegun.

On January 2, 2024, Wallace attempted to flee his Pell City apartment but was apprehended by law enforcement. Officers recovered a Century Arms Micro VSKA 7.62x39mm pistol from his residence, with a round chambered and a loaded magazine in place.

The case investigation was led by the ATF, alongside the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, Pell City Police Department, Talladega Police Department, and Anniston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy M. Peoples prosecuted the case with determination.

Wallace’s sentence sends a stark message about the consequences of illegal firearms possession in Alabama, a state known for its stringent gun laws.
