Felons Caught with Guns at Denver Hotel
Three men, Ricardo Rodriguez, 44, Richard Platt, 42, and Gabriel Rodriguez, 48, were arrested at the Maven Hotel in downtown Denver after law enforcement officers responded to a report of suspicious activity. The officers obtained search warrants for the two rooms rented by Rodriguez and Platt, respectively, and found multiple firearms in each room.
Officers also contacted Gabriel Rodriguez in the hotel lobby, where they found him carrying a loaded 9mm pistol and significant quantities of illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine. The three defendants have multiple previous felony convictions.
The arrests were made on July 9th, and the defendants will make their initial appearances in federal court in Denver at 2:00 today, where they will be advised of the charges against them. Gabriel Rodriguez has also been charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to the complaints, the law enforcement officers responded to the Maven Hotel after receiving a report of suspicious activity from hotel staff. The officers found that each of the three defendants had been renting rooms at the hotel, and that they had been engaging in suspicious behavior.
The charges against the defendants are allegations, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty. State charges previously filed against the same defendants have been dismissed.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has stated that there is currently no evidence of any intent or plan to disrupt or commit violence by the defendants in connection with the MLB All-Star festivities.
