Shots fired, domestic disputes escalating, and guns found on felons. Just another day in Savannah. But for Javell D. Wright and Amir Rashad Shaheed-Ali, it was the day their lives went off the rails. Both men, convicted felons, were sentenced to federal prison for carrying guns in separate cases.
Wright, 35, got 63 months after Savannah police responded to a domestic dispute with shots fired in February 2025. They later found a pistol in his vehicle during a traffic stop. His rap sheet was already littered with state convictions for carrying guns illegally.
Shaheed-Ali, 29, got 55 months for possessing a pistol during a December 2024 traffic stop. The Savannah Police Department found him with the gun and quickly connected the dots to his long history of convictions.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge R. Stan Baker handed down the sentences, ordering both men to serve three years of supervised release after their prison terms. The message from U.S. Attorney Meg Heap was clear: ‘If you carry a gun, you’re going to prison.’
