⏱ 2 min read

Antonio Rivera-Perez, a 23-year-old Buffalo resident, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The crime occurred in Buffalo, New York, where Rivera-Perez was caught selling fentanyl to undercover agents on January 22 and 28, 2025. A subsequent search of his Langfield Drive residence on April 22, 2025, uncovered a stash of illicit drugs, including powder cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl, as well as a Glock 19 handgun and ammunition.

The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), revealed that Rivera-Perez was a key player in the local fentanyl trade. The guilty plea is a significant blow to the drug trafficking operations in the area, and Rivera-Perez now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

The DEA’s New York Field Division, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam, worked tirelessly to bring Rivera-Perez to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Garrett Fitzsimmons and Katerina Powers handled the case, which will be sentenced on August 11, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.

The guilty plea is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking in Western New York. The seizure of over 1,000 grams of powder cocaine, 198 grams of crack cocaine, and 190 grams of fentanyl, as well as the recovery of a firearm and ammunition, demonstrates the seriousness of the crime and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against drug trafficking.
