Fentanyl Kingpin Leonel Bautista Solis Sentenced to 7.5 Years
Jacksonville, FL – In a major blow to the city’s growing fentanyl crisis, 29-year-old Leonel Bautista Solis, a Georgia resident, has been sentenced to 7 years and 8 months in federal prison for distributing 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
According to court documents, on March 23, 2023, Solis traveled from Georgia to Jacksonville to sell the deadly opioid. When federal agents apprehended him, they recovered 1,600 pressed fentanyl pills, cocaine packaged for sale, and six firearms inside his vehicle.
Solis admitted to purchasing the drugs in Atlanta and transporting them to Jacksonville, where he planned to deliver them along with the firearms. The brazen operation highlights the growing threat of fentanyl trafficking in the region.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro prosecuted the case.
The sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in local communities. Launched in May 2021, PSN brings together law enforcement and community organizations to foster trust and prevent violence.
Solis’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of fentanyl trafficking. As the nation grapples with the opioid epidemic, the sentence sends a clear message that those responsible for peddling these deadly substances will be held accountable.
