Fort Atkinson Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Child Pornography
A 42-year-old Fort Atkinson man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. Christopher Cahill was found guilty and sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge James Peterson.
The charge against Cahill was the result of an investigation conducted by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, the Cottage Grove Police Department, the Fort Atkinson Police Department, and with the assistance of the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
According to prosecutors, in May 2020, Cahill emailed himself a sexually explicit video of a minor. During sentencing, Judge Peterson found as an aggravating factor Cahill’s two prior convictions for sex offenses against juveniles.
Cahill will also serve a lifetime period of supervised release following his imprisonment. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
Law enforcement officials praised the cooperation and coordination that led to Cahill’s conviction and sentencing. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of distributing child pornography.
