Heroin and Methamphetamine Smuggling Case Rocks Alabama Community

A Texas man has been sentenced for his role in a massive heroin and methamphetamine smuggling operation in Alabama.

Francisco Jesus Ramirez, 26, of Brownsville, Texas, was sentenced to 72 months in prison for his participation in a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 30 kilograms of methamphetamine and five kilograms of heroin.

The operation was uncovered in January 2020 after a traffic stop on I-65 in Mobile County, where authorities seized the massive haul from a co-conspirator driving Ramirez’s truck.

According to court documents, Ramirez was in telephone contact with the driver of the load during the trip and participated in the arrangements for the delivery of the drugs, which were destined for Atlanta, Georgia.

A juvenile male was also picked up with heroin in Atlanta, but no delivery of the methamphetamine could be accomplished following the seizure of the heroin.

Ramirez’s truck driver cooperated with investigators, and Homeland Security agents were able to identify him as a participant in the scheme.

Chief United States District Court Judge Kristi K. Dubose imposed the 72-month sentence, which will be followed by a five-year term of supervised release. Ramirez was also ordered to pay $100 in mandatory special assessments.
