FRESNO, Calif. — A Fresno man has been sentenced to over seven years for a harrowing incident where he fired an AR-15-style rifle from a moving vehicle in a residential neighborhood.
Timothy Scott Chenot, 34, was handed down a seven-year-and-three-month prison sentence today by United States District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff. The charge? Felon in possession of ammunition.
The night of August 2, 2024, Chenot reportedly drove through Southeast Fresno’s quiet streets, gunning down rounds from his truck into parked cars, leaving them unoccupied and in shock.
After discarding his firearm on the street, Chenot thought he had escaped. But responding officers quickly pulled him over, finding several empty shells, ammunition, open alcoholic containers, and ultimately the weapon itself at the scene of the shooting.
This case is a result of an intensive investigation led by the Fresno Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cody S. Chapple was the lead prosecutor in the case.
The sentence comes under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime, including gun violence.
