Luis A. Gama, Re-Entry After Deportation, Louisiana 2025

New Orleans, Louisiana – Luis A. Gama, a 38-year-old Mexican national, has been handed down a severe sentence for re-entering the United States after being legally deported. Gama was sentenced to twelve months of imprisonment and one year of supervised release on July 23, 2025, by United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.

According to court documents, Gama was apprehended in Tangipahoa Parish on April 10, 2025. He had been deported to Mexico on September 10, 2019. The judge’s decision is a stark reminder of the repercussions faced by those who flout immigration laws.

This sentence comes as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling transnational criminal organizations. It represents a significant effort from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to protect communities from violent crime.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their thorough investigation into Gama’s case, with Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell overseeing the prosecution. The hard-hitting sentence sends a clear message about the consequences of illegal re-entry.

Operation Take Back America continues to strengthen efforts against illegal immigration and criminal organizations, ensuring that those who pose a threat to American communities are held accountable for their actions.
