Gambian Man Sentenced for Passport Scam

Bakusa Dukuray, a 38-year-old Gambian national, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for misusing a passport and aggravated identity theft, a federal crime that has left authorities searching for answers.

According to court documents, in May 2013, Dukuray attempted to enter the United States at the Lewiston Bridge Port of Entry in Lewiston, New York, using a Canadian passport issued in the name of a friend.

The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by United States Customs and Border Protection, under the direction of Randy Howe, Acting Director of Field Operations.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti, who handled the case, stated that Dukuray’s actions were a clear attempt to deceive authorities and gain entry into the country.

The case highlights the importance of proper identification and verification procedures, which can help prevent such crimes from occurring.

Following his sentence, Dukuray will be deported, bringing an end to a case that has raised questions about immigration and border control.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. has commended the efforts of the investigators and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring Dukuray to justice.
