Gang Indicted for Murder and Drug Trafficking
In a shocking turn of events, seven members of the East Hollygrove neighborhood in New Orleans have been indicted for federal murder, drug, and firearms violations.
The indictment, unsealed yesterday, charges Charles Johnson, 25, aka ‘Chuck’, Robert Johnson, 24, aka ‘Skinny’, Thomas Henderson, 24, aka ‘T’, Lavell Stoval, 21, aka ‘Vell’, William Henderson, 20, aka ‘Will’, Erskine Waters, 22, and Avian Brule, 20, aka ‘Ave’, with conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and a quantity of cocaine base.
According to the indictment, each defendant faces a minimum sentence of 10 years to life in prison, a fine of not more than $10,000,000, and a minimum of five years of supervised release.
In addition to the conspiracy charge, several of the defendants face additional charges related to murder and drug trafficking. Charles Johnson is charged with participating in the murder of Ms. Eula Mae Ivey on June 14, 2010, as a result of a drive-by shooting. If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to life in prison or the death penalty.
The indictment also charges the defendants with using firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes. Each faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release.
The indictment is the result of a long-term investigation by federal authorities, who worked closely with local law enforcement to bring the defendants to justice.
As the case moves forward, it remains to be seen how the defendants will plead and what the outcome will be. One thing is certain, however: the people of New Orleans will not tolerate this kind of violence and crime in their community.
