Timarcus Lavonnte Britt, 29, and his crew terrorized Eastern North Carolina in a gas station robbery spree, brandishing guns and leaving a trail of fear in their wake. On July 11, 2023, between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m., Britt and two accomplices, Jaliek Grant and a juvenile, robbed four gas stations in Greenville, Williamston, and Robersonville. The motive behind the robberies appeared to be financial gain, as they made off with cash, cigarettes, and Backwoods cigarillos.
The crew’s modus operandi was to drive to each location, don masks, and burst into the stores, waving guns with extended magazines. They would then push the cashiers behind the counter, shove guns in their faces, and demand money. The victims were left shaken, and the community was on high alert as the robberies continued throughout the night.
The spree finally came to an end when Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies called ahead to employees at a Speedway in Oak City, warning them of the potential robbery. Britt’s gang was eventually apprehended, and he was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for his role in the robberies. U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle stated that Britt and his crew had traded decades of their lives for ‘a few bucks and cheap cigars,’ and would now have to live with the consequences of their actions.
