Daniel R. Gerken, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Wyoming 2023

Wyoming’s gritty federal courts handed down a significant sentence on June 2, as Daniel R. Gerken, 35, from Gillette, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and for using and carrying a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

The court, presided over by Federal District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson, sentenced Gerken to 120 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $200.00 special assessment and compensate the victims with $250.00 in restitution. The case was meticulously investigated by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

On June 1, Judge Johnson sentenced Heather Dayle Gould, 29, from Lander, on one count each of Medicaid fraud and Food Stamp fraud. Gould’s arrest followed her fraudulent activities in Lander. She was handed a three-year probation term and ordered to repay $20,807.65 in restitution. The Fraud and Recovery Unit of the Department of Family Services led the investigation.

In Casper, William David Larson, 19, faced justice for the transportation of child pornography. Sentenced to 168 months imprisonment with ten years of supervised release following, he was also assessed a $100.00 special assessment and ordered to pay $3,000.00 in restitution. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations were the investigative agencies involved.

Kenith Joseph Cassady, 41, from Gillette, self-surrendered in Casper for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 110 months imprisonment followed by four years of supervised release, with a $100.00 special assessment and $250.00 restitution fee. The Laramie Police Department, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration were responsible for the investigation.

Two illegal re-entry cases also made headlines. Diego Armando Medrano-Lopez, 23, from Chihuahua, Mexico, and Rosalio Solis-Solorio, 30, of Michoacán, Mexico, each faced charges for illegal re-entry after deportation. They were sentenced to time served plus ten days and ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment, with deportation imminent upon release. The investigations were led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Lastly, in a case of child pornography possession, Orin Loos, 69, from Cheyenne, was sentenced to five years of probation with a $100.00 special assessment and $15,080.00 in restitution fees. The investigation was handled by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
