Falmouth Man Sentenced to 360 Months for Methamphetamine Conspiracy
COVINGTON, Ky. – A Falmouth man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that brought harm to the community.
Gregory Sydnor, 30, was sentenced to 360 months in federal prison by United States District Judge David L. Bunning. Sydnor was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release, to be served after completion of his prison term.
The investigation, conducted by the DEA, the Kentucky State Police, and the Pendleton County Sheriff’s Department, revealed that Sydnor was a key player in a conspiracy that distributed over 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in 2017. Crystal methamphetamine is a highly pure form of methamphetamine commonly brought to the area from Mexico and communities along the southwest border of the United States.
Sydnor admitted to regularly distributing methamphetamine to other traffickers and selling the drug to minors. He and other members of the conspiracy also possessed firearms while selling the drugs, leading to the seizure of ten firearms and a large amount of ammunition during the investigation.
The evidence presented in court showed that Sydnor had five prior felony convictions, adding to the severity of his sentence. Under federal law, each defendant must serve at least 85 percent of their prison sentence.
Sydnor was indicted in November 2017 along with other members of his conspiracy. All entered guilty pleas, with some receiving prison sentences in November 2018 and September 2018. William Todd Ramsey was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison, Sterling T. Cole was sentenced to 157 months in prison, and Nathaniel Hughes was sentenced to 37 months in prison.
The investigation and prosecution of Sydnor’s case were a collaborative effort between the DEA, the Kentucky State Police, the Pendleton County Sheriff’s Department, and the United States Attorney’s Office. Robert M. Duncan, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Timothy J. Plancon, Special Agent in Charge, DEA; Richard Sanders, Commissioner of the Kentucky State Police; and Charles Peoples, Pendleton County Sheriff, made the announcement.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tony Bracke. This sentence demonstrates the commitment of federal and local law enforcement to hold accountable those who engage in methamphetamine trafficking and other serious crimes.
