PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Domingo Gonzalez Perez, a 43-year-old citizen of Guatemala, has been handed a 60-day prison sentence and faces deportation after pleading guilty to illegal reentry of a removed alien. The sentencing comes from the federal court, where Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan imposed the punishment on August 20, 2025.
According to court documents, Gonzalez Perez had attempted to enter or entered the United States illicitly four times before and has been present in the U.S. illegally since at least October 2024 following his prior removal from the country. His latest illegal attempt came to light when he was arrested on October 9, 2024, for domestic assault.
Despite having a federal arrest warrant out for him, Gonzalez Perez was picked up again by Pennsylvania State Police in Bedford County in April 2025, this time charged with driving under the influence and evading arrest. He has been held in custody ever since, awaiting his fate in court.
Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson led the prosecution against Gonzalez Perez on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti praised Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Pennsylvania State Police for their work in bringing him to justice.
This case is a part of Operation Take Back America, a Justice Department initiative aimed at dismantling cartels, combating illegal immigration, and safeguarding communities from violent crime.
Gonzalez Perez will be transferred to immigration custody upon completing his federal sentence, marking the end of his illegal presence in the United States.
