Keith Cook, a 32-year-old Maryland man, was caught red-handed in a West Baltimore neighborhood, dealing marijuana and possessing a firearm. On January 27, 2023, a Baltimore Police Department officer monitoring a CitiWatch camera observed Cook taking out a clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana from a Tupperware container and handing it to unidentified males. Minutes later, officers arrived at the scene, handcuffed Cook, and searched him, finding a firearm equipped with an extended magazine, 9-millimeter ammunition, and various drugs, including Alprazolam, Oxycodone, and a heroin and fentanyl mixture.
Cook, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. The search also yielded $906 in cash, an iPhone, a flip phone, and a backpack containing the Tupperware filled with bags of suspected marijuana. The evidence was damning, and Cook’s actions were a clear indication of his involvement in drug trafficking.
The U.S. District Court sentenced Cook to seven years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes, along with Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Commissioner Richard Worley of the Baltimore Police Department (BPD).
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and gun violence in Baltimore.
