Gutierrez-Chavarria Sentenced for Illegal Reentry After Drug Conviction

Las Vegas, NV – A Mexican national with a prior drug trafficking conviction has been sentenced to over 13 months in prison for illegal reentry into the United States. Gutierrez-Chavarria was twice deported before his latest arrest.

Gutierrez-Chavarria was originally sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison for drug trafficking and had served 16 years before being deported in 2022. He was arrested by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on December 13, 2024, for selling and transporting controlled substances.

The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States and was sentenced by Judge Gloria Navarro. Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Jason Knight announced the sentence.

ICE’s Las Vegas Sub-Office investigated the case, with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada prosecuting it. The public is encouraged to report crimes and suspicious activity by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE or completing an online tip form.

Gutierrez-Chavarria faces additional time in prison if he violates his supervised release conditions.
