Kylın Sexton, Federal Controlled Substances Act Violation, LA 2025

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE — In a stunning turn of events, Kylın Sexton, 25, from Hammond, Louisiana, has been sentenced to time served for violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown on July 24, 2025.

According to court records, Sexton’s cousin, Tyshon Coleman, was the subject of a firearms complaint which led to a massive bust involving both weapons and drugs. On May 18, 2022, the Ponchatoula Police Department responded to a retail establishment where they discovered Coleman in possession of a firearm.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers found Sexton inside alongside Coleman. The scene escalated as Coleman refused compliance with police orders. During the confrontation, officers seized a Glock Model 17, nine-millimeter handgun, loaded with 30 rounds and equipped with a machine gun conversion device.

Further investigation revealed that the green backpack belonging to Sexton contained marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride packaged for distribution. This case was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department.

Coleman, who faced similar charges, pled guilty to possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a machine gun, receiving a 106-month sentence on December 19, 2024.

Assistant United States Attorney Brittany Reed of the Violent Crime/Strike Force Unit is handling the prosecution. Sexton has been ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison.
