PIERRE, SD — Jerrod Fallis, 47, a Harrold resident, was handed a six-month federal prison sentence for his illegal possession of a firearm, following an ATF sting operation that netted the AR15 rifle and silencer.
Fallis’s sentence also includes three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. The forfeiture of the weapon and silencer was ordered by the court, marking the conclusion of his case, which began when he was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2024.
On December 8, 2023, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on Fallis’s vehicle. During the search, officers discovered not only the firearm and silencer but also methamphetamine paraphernalia. Fallis is prohibited from owning firearms due to prior state felony drug convictions, making his possession of the weapon a federal offense.
United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell praised the successful outcome, noting that this case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. The program’s strategy includes fostering community trust, supporting anti-violence organizations, targeted enforcement, and measuring results.
This investigation was a joint effort between the ATF and the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges handled the prosecution of Fallis. Following his conviction, Fallis was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
