Heroin Conspiracy Lands Local Man in Hot Water
A Springfield man has been charged with his role in a heroin conspiracy that spanned two years in Greene County, Mo.
Craig S. Shade, 49, of Springfield, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield on three counts: conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, distributing heroin, and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
The indictment alleges that Shade participated in the conspiracy to distribute at least one kilogram of heroin in Greene County from July 11, 2014, to July 6, 2016.
Shade is also accused of distributing heroin on June 22, 2016, and possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it on July 6, 2016.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nhan D. Nguyen is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, COMET (the Combined Ozarks Multi-jurisdiction Enforcement Team), and the Greene County, Mo., Sheriff’s Office.
Larson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, cautioned that the charges are simply accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that evidence must be presented to a federal trial jury to determine guilt or innocence.
The case is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against heroin trafficking in the region and the importance of law enforcement collaboration in bringing those responsible to justice.
