A Rand heroin dealer has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for his role in distributing heroin in the Kanawha County area, as revealed in a recent investigation.
According to Acting United States Attorney Carol Casto, Marcus Manchion, 27, pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin in federal court. Manchion admitted to selling heroin to a confidential informant working with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department on multiple occasions in March 2015.
The investigation revealed that Manchion sold heroin to the informant on March 3, 2015, on the 5000 block of Church Drive in Rand. He also admitted to selling heroin to the informant on three other occasions in the same month.
On April 16, 2015, officers executed a search warrant on Manchion’s house in Rand, recovering over 80 grams of heroin and a Glock Model 37 pistol.
The investigation was conducted by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, with Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman responsible for the prosecution. United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr., imposed the sentence.
This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin in communities across the Southern District.
The sentencing of Manchion serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against heroin and prescription drug abuse in West Virginia and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat it.
