Heroin Trafficker Sentenced to Up to 40 Years
A Clarksburg man has been convicted of heroin trafficking after selling the deadly drug near Harrison Street Park in Harrison County, West Virginia.
Randy Joe Jones, 32, was found guilty of distributing heroin within 1,000 feet of a protected location. The guilty plea was made in federal court, where U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced the conviction.
Jones faces a significant prison sentence, between one and forty years, along with a fine of up to $4,000,000. The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the severity of the offense and Jones’ prior criminal history.
The investigation was led by the Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Adkins prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case, which highlights the ongoing struggle against heroin trafficking in the region. The conviction serves as a reminder of the serious consequences for those involved in the trade.
Jones’ conviction is a significant blow to the heroin trafficking ring in the area, and it is hoped that it will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities.
The case is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies working to keep the community safe from the dangers of heroin.
