Honduran Illegally Uses Social Security Number
NESTOR MURCIA-CARPIO, a 35-year-old Honduran national, has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for using a fake social security number and making false claims to US citizenship.
According to court documents, MURCIA-CARPIO pled guilty to a three-count superseding bill of information admitting to the following crimes:
On July 7, 2009, MURCIA-CARPIO falsely represented that a Social Security number had been assigned to him by the Commissioner of Social Security with intent to deceive, for the purpose of obtaining a Louisiana Identification Card at a Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles located in Houma.
On October 14, 2009, MURCIA-CARPIO falsely represented himself to be a citizen of the United States when he filed an application for a Louisiana Driver’s License at the Office of Motor Vehicles in Houma, when in fact, he was illegally present in the United States.
In addition to his prison sentence, MURCIA-CARPIO was also placed on one year of supervised release, during which time he will be under federal supervision and risk an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of supervised release.
The case was investigated by Special Agents of Homeland Security Investigations with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police and the United States Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service. The prosecution was handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
U.S. Attorney Dana Boente announced the sentence, stating that MURCIA-CARPIO’s actions were a serious breach of trust and a threat to national security.
As part of his sentence, MURCIA-CARPIO will be required to serve his eight-month prison term and one year of supervised release, during which time he will be subject to strict supervision and risk additional imprisonment if he fails to comply with the terms of his release.
