HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A local man was sentenced to 70 months in prison for a federal drug crime.
Cecil Monroe Bowman, 66, was found guilty of possession with the intent to distribute heroin. According to court documents, Bowman was pulled over by the West Virginia State Police on October 14, 2020. After giving Troopers consent to search his vehicle, they found 23 grams of heroin under the driver’s seat. Bowman admitted he intended to sell the heroin.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Violent Crime and Drug Task Force West, and the West Virginia State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor handled the prosecution. United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence.
Bowman’s sentence is a result of his actions on that fateful day. The 23 grams of heroin found in his vehicle was a significant amount, and his admission of intent to sell only adds to the severity of the crime.
The West Virginia State Police and the DEA worked tirelessly to bring Bowman to justice. Their dedication to keeping our communities safe is commendable, and we are grateful for their efforts.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston commended the investigative work of the agencies involved in the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia also commended the agencies for their hard work.
Bowman will serve his sentence at a federal prison. His case is a reminder that our law enforcement agencies are working hard to keep our communities safe from the scourge of heroin and other illicit substances.
