Huntington Man Stacks Sentenced for Felon-in-Possession of Firearm
A Huntington man has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Stephen Dwayne Jackson, 39, also known as “Stacks,” was handed down the sentence in a United States District Court in West Virginia.
Jackson was found to be in possession of a loaded Kel-Tech P-11 9mm pistol on August 18, 2023, at a Donald Avenue residence in Huntington. This discovery was made during the execution of a search warrant by law enforcement officers.
According to federal law, a person with a prior felony conviction is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. Jackson was aware of this law due to his prior conviction for possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base in 2011.
United States Attorney Will Thompson praised the investigative work of the Huntington Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program brings together law enforcement and community members to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorneys Courtney L. Finney and Joseph F. Adams prosecuted the case.
Stephen Dwayne Jackson’s sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release. His crime was a direct violation of federal law, which prohibits felons from possessing firearms.
The Department of Justice has launched a violent crime reduction strategy to strengthen PSN, focusing on trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and measuring results.
